The Lakes College Aquatic Precinct
The Lakes College, located in North Lakes, Queensland, embarked on an ambitious project to enhance its aquatic facilities, culminating in the completion of the Aquatic Precinct. This state-of-the-art development was designed to provide students and the community with top-tier swimming amenities, promoting aquatic education and wellness.
Project Features
The Aquatic Precinct was developed in two stages:
- Stage 1: Completed in September 2022, this phase introduced an eight-lane, 25-meter heated outdoor swimming pool equipped with ramp access, a kiosk, and comprehensive amenities, including changerooms, showers, and toilets.
- Stage 2: Commenced in early 2024, this stage expanded the facility to include a dedicated 20-meter indoor heated learn-to-swim pool and a shaded grandstand with seating for 500 spectators. The design emphasized accessibility, featuring all-abilities access from the car park to both pools and amenities areas.
ARCPANEL Aquatek Integration
To meet the project’s specific requirements, the ARCPANEL Aquatek roofing system was selected for its exceptional suitability in aquatic environments. Key benefits of this integration included:
- Superior Insulation: The Aquatek panels provided outstanding thermal insulation, ensuring a comfortable environment for swimmers year-round by maintaining consistent temperatures and reducing energy consumption.
- Durability in Corrosive Environments: Designed specifically for highly corrosive, industrial, and aquatic settings, the Aquatek panels offered high durability and low maintenance, essential for the humid conditions of indoor pools.
- Integrated Design: The all-in-one panel system integrated the roof, insulation, ceiling, and soffit, resulting in substantial cost savings. This integration reduced the need for additional structural supports, provided a cleaner finish, minimized on-site labor and trades, and expedited the installation process.
Project Outcomes
The incorporation of the ARCPANEL Aquatek system led to several notable outcomes:
- Enhanced User Comfort: Swimmers and spectators benefit from a thermally stable environment, making the facilities comfortable and usable throughout the year.
- Cost Efficiency: The streamlined construction process and reduced material requirements contributed to significant cost savings, aligning with the project’s budget constraints.
- Aesthetic and Functional Excellence: The sleek design of the Aquatek panels complemented the architectural vision of the precinct, delivering both aesthetic appeal and functional performance.
Conclusion
The Lakes College Aquatic Precinct stands as a testament to innovative design and strategic material selection. The use of ARCPANEL’s Aquatek roofing system not only met the project’s functional and aesthetic goals but also ensured long-term durability and efficiency, providing the community with a premier aquatic facility.
